For information about the errors that are common to all actions, see Common Errors.

Up to 50 simultaneous table operations are allowed per account. The only exception is when you are creating a table with one or more secondary indexes.

You can have up to 25 such requests running at a time; however, if the table or index specifications are complex, DynamoDB might temporarily reduce the number of concurrent operations. The operation conflicts with the resource's availability. The operation tried to access a nonexistent table or index. Javascript is disabled or is unavailable in your browser.

The BatchGetItem operation returns the attributes of one or more items from one or more tables. You identify requested items by primary key. A single operation can retrieve up to 16 MB of data, which can contain as many as items. BatchGetItem returns a partial result if the response size limit is exceeded, the table's provisioned throughput is exceeded, or an internal processing failure occurs. If a partial result is returned, the operation returns a value for UnprocessedKeys.

You can use this value to retry the operation starting with the next item to get.

For example, if you ask to retrieve items, but each individual item is KB in size, the system returns 52 items so as not to exceed the 16 MB limit. It also returns an appropriate UnprocessedKeys value so you can get the next page of results. If desired, your application can include its own logic to assemble the pages of results into one dataset. If none of the items can be processed due to insufficient provisioned throughput on all of the tables in the request, then BatchGetItem returns a ProvisionedThroughputExceededException.

If at least one of the items is successfully processed, then BatchGetItem completes successfully, while returning the keys of the unread items in UnprocessedKeys. If DynamoDB returns any unprocessed items, you should retry the batch operation on those items.

However, we strongly recommend that you use an exponential backoff algorithm. If you retry the batch operation immediately, the underlying read or write requests can still fail due to throttling on the individual tables.

If you delay the batch operation using exponential backoff, the individual requests in the batch are much more likely to succeed. Your users are humans, and sometimes they will create a product by mistake and will need to delete it. Each of these two classes has their own advantages and disadvantages depending on the situation. There is no easy way to determine when the record was deleted, who deleted it, or a way to undelete it.

One may think that our snapshotting strategy implemented in the prior history article would handle this. However, the snapshot stores the state of the record before the record was updated so in a delete scenario, the datetime and user who performed the delete would not be present in the snapshot table.

For our RESTful service, due to the fact that we have a need to support history, and because products will probably be rarely deleted, we are going to implement a soft delete strategy. First, we will create our delete handler. We need to load the product, snapshot its current state, set the lastModified date, and save it using optimistic concurrency control just like our update endpoint.

We now have to work our way through most of the other endpoints e. A filter expression is not an index. It is equivalent to using an Array filter. It does save a bit of bandwidth by not having to ship filtered items across the network. We could have returned a status code here and it would have been accurate. However, if we look at a list of standard HTTP status codes we can see that a Gone method is more appropriate.

There are a lot more status codes than most people realize and using the most specific status code can help clients better understand the effects of their request. See the changes we made here. By default, BatchGetItem performs eventually consistent reads on every table in the request. If you want strongly consistent reads instead, you can set ConsistentRead to true for any or all tables. When designing your application, keep in mind that DynamoDB does not return items in any particular order. To help parse the response by item, include the primary key values for the items in your request in the ProjectionExpression parameter.

If a requested item does not exist, it is not returned in the result. Requests for nonexistent items consume the minimum read capacity units according to the type of read. This is a convenience which creates an instance of the BatchGetItemRequest.

Back to Azure Updates.Azure Storage now offers soft delete for blob objects so that you can more easily recover your data when it is erroneously modified or deleted by an application or other storage account user.

This feature is not yet supported in accounts that have a hierarchical namespace Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2. When enabled, soft delete enables you to save and recover your data when blobs or blob snapshots are deleted.

This protection extends to blob data that is erased as the result of an overwrite. When data is deleted, it transitions to a soft deleted state instead of being permanently erased.

When soft delete is on and you overwrite data, a soft deleted snapshot is generated to save the state of the overwritten data. Soft deleted objects are invisible unless explicitly listed.

You can configure the amount of time soft deleted data is recoverable before it is permanently expired. Soft delete is backwards compatible, so you don't have to make any changes to your applications to take advantage of the protections this feature affords. When you create a new account, soft delete is off by default. Soft delete is also off by default for existing storage accounts.

You can toggle the feature on and off at any time during the life of a storage account. You will still be able to access and recover soft deleted data when the feature is turned off, assuming that soft deleted data was saved when the feature was previously turned on. When you turn on soft delete, you also need to configure the retention period. The retention period indicates the amount of time that soft deleted data is stored and available for recovery. For blobs and blob snapshots that are explicitly deleted, the retention period clock starts when the data is deleted.

For soft deleted snapshots generated by the soft delete feature when data is overwritten, the clock starts when the snapshot is generated. Currently you can retain soft deleted data for between 1 and days.

You can change the soft delete retention period at any time. An updated retention period will only apply to newly deleted data. Previously deleted data will expire based on the retention period that was configured when that data was deleted. Attempting to delete a soft deleted object will not affect its expiry time. Soft delete preserves your data in many cases where blobs or blob snapshots are deleted or overwritten.
