Frostflow 120

This time we have one of the mm varieties on the test bench in the shape of the FrostFlow Does half the size equal half the performance? Or will it rub shoulders with its bigger brothers on the Play3r CPU cooling charts? First impressions are that this is a pretty nice looking unit.

To be honest, I much prefer this more minimalistic look for the CPU block. A simple solid block, all decked out in black, with just the manufacturer logo taking centre stage. This illuminates white during operation, but there is no way to change this to any other colour. They are as follows:. The remainder of the unit follows the design we have seen before. Rubber tubes link the block to the radiator, and they are extremely flexible, which helps when mounting inside your chassis.

The mm fan supplied is exactly the same in design as we have seen before, but performance on this one ranges from to RPM. With this increase in speed, also comes an increase in airflow; this one rated at Since our previous cooling reviews prior to Novemberwe have decided to update the method accordingly for better and consistent results.

Our new methodology involves running a very stressful multi-threaded performance benchmark called ROG RealBench. To provide truly accurate readings, you need a lab setting with the same ambient noise on an hour by hour, day by day and week by week basis. To test each cooler at idle, the minimum temperature is taken after leaving the PC with only start-up programs on Windows 10 being allowed to run for 5 minutes.

After this, the minimum temperature with the core temperature being offset against the room temperature; thus achieving delta. To load test, we run RealBench while selecting the heavy multitasking benchmark only.

We run this a maximum of 3 times concurrently and the maximum temperature recorded is taken. This temperature is deducted from the current room temperature and our final delta temperature is provided. The simpler design of the CPU block is much more pleasing to me personally, and makes it look more premium in my opinion. The L is reasonably well equipped, with a mm radiator and fan design, which ensures compatibility with a huge amount of chassis products, a nice quality aluminium construction radiator, copper cold plate and a ceramic bearing pump.

The packaging is pretty straight forward, with a clear image of the cooler and the LED lighting on the front, as well as a quick run-down of the main specifications. Around the back, a nice quote from ID-Cooling that gives a little more information about the product.

This includes high-quality mounting screws, a universal backplate, AMD and Intel brackets, as well as a small tube of thermal paste. The fins have ridges to help better direct the airflow and there are rubber anti-vibration pads on each of the mounting corners. The pump is nice and compact, with a stylish red LED array on the top and a small ID logo in the middle. The copper base plate is very nicely finished, with a large and flat contact surface that should fit nicely over your CPU of choice.

Hosted by InnoScale. If you have not heard of ID-Cooling, it is likely you are not alone. As for our experience with them, all we have to base an opinion off of is the SEX, which was a tower style cooler with a direct contact base, but even in its time, it did not do all that great in our testing but was a worthy stock cooler replacement at minimal cost. The thing is now, though, they have completely switched gears and have found an empty seat on the AIO train.

Now they too are offering up sealed liquid cooling solutions, and while there are plenty of these already, ID-Cooling took the time to offers something unique as well. Of course we have seen the full gamut of AIOs, almost from their inception, and with every new year, these coolers get more and more efficient, and tend to perform better and better with competition to reign supreme in this market being so high.

Jumping into this market at this time, with companies like Corsair and NZXT dominating the market currently, seems almost like a suicide mission. But ID-Cooling feels they are up for the challenge and have delivered to the market not only a mm radiator based solution as well as a mm, but they have even come up with a dual head unit CPU and GPU cooler all-in-one loop to eliminate the need for multiple kits in the same chassis as you have to do with the aforementioned companies.

Starting our voyage into sealed loop cooling systems with ID-Cooling, we are first having a look at the Frostflow L. The unit could be full of features or an individual lighting system, it can be super-affordable, or it has to kick ass and take names in our charts to come out swinging.

Let's see if the Frostflow L will sink or swim as we take a closer look, and we put it in the test system and see just what ID-Cooling and their Frostflow series of coolers have for you. ID-Cooling starts off on the right foot with the fully detailed specifications chart. Things start off with the full list of compatible sockets for both AMD and Intel that the Frostflow L will mount to. They list a W TDP for this mm tall, mm wide, and 27mm thick aluminum radiator.

We see they use EPDM rubber tubing that is said to be mm in length between the radiator and the head unit. Speaking of which, the head is 56mm in diameter without the hardware and stands 36mm tall. Inside of all of the plastic of the head unit, we find a copper cold plate at the bottom under a pump supported on a ceramic bearing. They show the power draw at just 0. The chart shows us this is a mm fan that spins in a range of to RPM. At maximum speed, this fan can deliver This fan will run with just seven volts, but its operating range for a smoothly spinning fan starts at The last things to know about this fan is that it is suspended on a hydraulic bearing and that it comes almost all black with a bright red trim ring to match their circling LED in the head unit.

We did find plenty of links in the Philippines, but those won't do us much good here. As for Amazon and Newegg, we can only hope there is a box of these coolers sitting off the coast of California, we honestly were given no expected arrival time. However, even if having to use an odd site to obtain this cooler, at that price, it is almost worth giving it a try. We will hold our final opinion until the testing is done, of course, but on paper, and how deep it does not go into your wallet, things look good so far.

We see an excellent image of the cooler in the middle with a few features listed to the right, leaving the bottom open for the bright red lettering of the Frostflow L naming. This side of the box does not provide much other than the company and product naming and finely printed features below it.We use cookies and similar tools to enhance your shopping experience, to provide our services, understand how customers use our services so we can make improvements, and display ads.

Irregardless how you achieve it, either by buying newer, more powerful hardware or overclocking to save some cash, there will always be heat as a side product.

While newer processors have reduced heat output, they still produce heat.

How do we do it? With coolers, of course. The fan has 11 blades for higher static pressure and a red ring for better aesthetics. There are generous rubber nubs on each corner to reduce vibration noise. Here is what it looks like when running. The logo lights up, but unlike the Frostflow L, there is no circular running lights on the pump. Idle temperatures are taken from the average temperature of all 4 cores with no open windows and 30 minutes of idle time.

Load temperatures are taken from the highest temperature observed on a single core during 15 runs of Intel Burn Test, with Standard stress level. Noise output is negligible with the pump emitting a soft whirring sound and the fan whooshing. That was with the case door open. With it closed I could barely hear a thing.

Installation was straight-forward. The installation guide included in the box is detailed and I managed to complete installing the Frostflow in less than 20 minutes.

The installation process is largely tool-less. Mounting the cooling block to the motherboard is a simple process of lining up the screw holes in the brackets with the screws sticking out from the backplate and sliding it towards the CPU.

T-nuts are then fastened on to hold the block in place. I would prefer Phillips screws instead of tool-less nuts here because it is hard to exert the proper amount of torque by twisting with my bare hands. Even with these results I am not sure whether the block has appropriate pressure on my CPU or performance could have been better with more pressure.

The Cooler Master Hyper X will need at least mm of clearance, while the Frostflow should be able to fit into any case which fits a mm fan. Versatility wise, the two coolers compared are worlds apart. Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro. Pokde Picks.Pros: overall great cooler for the price i knew it would not fit my rx so i modified it works great temps are about cooler on idle and about 20 degrees cooler under load.

Cools very well, I can OC to core from stockwith no voltage bump. Better that stock. The thermal pads were recut, and I used alcohol to clean the modules and they stuck very wellthey hold on. For 55 dollars, it seems a good way to watercool a video card. Cons: Fan for radiator is ok, uses a lot of wires to power pump and fans.

Had to place a few of the heatsinks for the VRAM off set on the modules so the water block can seat. I thought this solution would be best so I could have the card cooled without worrying about if the card fan would manually be turned on or if there was a software failure. This seemed like the best solution. So far played for hours overclocked and its rock solid. That's all I cared aboutand no worrying about the fans failing.

They're relatively easy to install and work well. Cons: I'm not crazy about the heatsink tape. It doesn't stick very well to the chips. I cleaned them with alchohol, acetone and even carberator cleaner and I was never happy with how they stuck on.

Now that I know I am happy with the coolers I will go back and reattach them with thermal epoxy a much more permanent solution.

Overall Review: I put these on 2 Zotac ti extremes. The fans were good and overall very happy with the performance. I used better thermal past on the GPU too. They come from China so shipping is a little long even if paid for faster. Be wary. Cons: I installed this card on a Gigabyte TI and the connections to the GPU for the fan controls are not the same as motherboard fan controls and there were no converters.

I had to plug both fan controls into Motherboard case fan slots. I was able to hardwire the fan controls on the motherboard, but it does not take into account change in GPU temps. Overall Review: Knowing this I may have just bought replacement fans for the windforce GPU cooler that was on the card already and replace the broken fans.

Pros: - Inexpensive - Above expected fit and finish - 35C temp drop under load - Easy-ish Installation - Included hardware seems above average quality. Cons: - Had to make slight modification to included VRAM heatsinks to mount the water block - No monitoring software or other ways to control fan speeds. See other notes. Overall Review: If you're looking to buy this, or any product from ID-cooling, Fully expect them to be mixing copper with aluminum.
